For my project, I chose 2 political cartoons dealing with the issue of abortion. As soon as I saw this cartoon, I knew i wanted to do my project on a subject that I debate over quite often.
I don’t like to base my political views on how my parents raised me, but my mom has had a huge impact on my strong stance on abortion (I’m extremely pro-life btw). My mom stands out in front of abortion clinics about 3-5 times a week and gives people literature about why they should not abort. I’ve gone with her, and it’s an eye- opening experience. Girls go in crying their eyes out. After the abortion is done, some hobble out, and crawl in pain into a taxi.
I’m extremely pro-life because I know what goes on with abortion. I really don’t voice my opinion on topics that I don’t know about, that’s not my place. But I really do have a very strong opinion on this subject, so when I saw this cartoon, I knew that was what I wanted to do for my project.
As much as I want to voice my opinion about how horrible I think abortion is, I’m going to be careful not to let it consume my paper. Instead I am going to talk about how both these cartoons are quite effective. Even though the Greenberg cartoon seems to be pro-choice, I will still give it credit because it uses rhetorical strategies effectively and makes its point well (even if I disagree with it…). Of course I love the opposing cartoon much better. Its a picture of a teeny unborn baby on the seat of a huge electric chair with “RU-486″ on the head cap. Underneath it says, “The Choice.”
So even though I do not enjoy writing, I don’t think this project will be too bad since I am very interested in the subject.
Btw, the reason why my topic is “Oh the pictures..” is because I’ve seen some really awful pictures of aborted babies.
